Overwatch League Gains First Female Pro
The Overwatch community has been buzzing with news on top notch player Kim “Geguri” for the past week, as her status as a possible pro player was being examined. That said, it’s no longer just idle chatter being floated through the air in regards to her future career as Overwatch League team Shanghai Dragons have signed the 19 year old player to their team. This officially makes Geguri the first woman to be playing in the league.
Shanghai Dragons has announced that they will be signing four new players to their team, a team that hasn’t been playing to hot this season. Alongside Geguri there is He “Sky” Junjian, an 18 year old who mains Ana, Zenyatta and Mcree; Chon “Ado” Gi-Hyeon, a 19 year old who mains DPS characters like Genji, Tracer, Pharah, and Doomfist; Lee “Fearless” Eui-Seok, a 20 year old who mains Roadhog, Reinhardt, and Winston.
Geguri is really known for amazing skills with Zarya, though she apparently can play Roadhog and D.Va quite well.
Geguri and her skills are coming in at an important time, as mentioned before Shanghai’s first season been struggling. With the Chinese team having a terrible 0-10 in this first season. The team likely hopes that new roster will breath some life into the struggling team.
Whether or not we will be seeing more female pro’s showing up in the coming months remains to be seen, especially as the League is in the midst of a new signing window. New players must be at least 18 years of age by April 5th and meet U.S. Visa requirements to be eligible to play.
Now let’s see who the teams bring out of the wood work.
