Nintendo Switch Update: Lets You Save Data Transfers and Adds Video Capture
Nintendo has just released yesterday an update to their system the Nintendo Switch, version 4.0.0. This update brings some new abilities to the Switch, that admittedly it should have already had. One such ability is the video capture feature for “select games”, and also the ability to take your user profiles and save data to a new console – which was one of the worst issues to date with the system as such things were locked to one console alone.
So far the video capture feature only works in four games on the system, those being The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2. We can only assume that with time more games will be added to the feature, the ability is activated by holding the screen capture button briefly and will only capture 30 seconds of gameplay. After which you can both trim and share the clips online.
It’s worth noting that when you transfer your user profile and save data to a new console, the switch is a one way transfer. According to Nintendo “Once the process is complete, the user information, the associated save data, and the software purchased with the user account that is transferred will no longer be available on the source console.” Thus meaning you will once again be limited to one console in terms of accessing your information, as I don’t imagine transferring data will be a quick process.
