Pokemon Go: Giving out Scarlet Letters to Cheaters
To those of you who have been cheating in the world of Pokemon Go, check out your Pokemon – they might have a new little marking to them.
Niantic has decided to crack down even harder on the cheaters of their mobile game, giving them their own brand of shame for their actions. The branding was first confirmed by a support account of Niantic’s on Reddit, telling readers about the newest feature introduced by Pokemon Go:
With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience.
Check out how your Pokemon looks with the new branding:
It remains unclear as to what ‘cheats’ will cause the stripe of shame through your Pokemon. Though it is likely all ‘mapper’ hacks will cause the scarlet letter of shame. It’s worth noting though that players are reporting any Pokemon that evolve end up losing the mark – though if this will be fixed in an update remains to be seen.
I personally hope that marked Pokemon “behave” disobedient and just hurt themselves.
