Overwatch: A Map Editor Is A Long Term Goal
Overwatch isn’t just working on new in game rules or heroes for us, as the new adjustment to the Draw system has shown or the recent drop of Orisa. They are also trying to bring to us a map editor – something I’m certain gamers everywhere have been begging for.
Jeff Kaplan, in typical good guy fashion, responded to questions about wanting a map editor on the Blizzard forums. He stated the following:
“We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday. But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon. We have this on our long-term road map and believe heavily in user-made content. But there are many challenges ahead of us and it will be a very long road before our editor can be made available to the public.”
The fact that this is in the works is promising, as some custom maps are always an exciting adventure in any FPS game. That said, it doesn’t seem to be something that will be hitting our shelves anytime soon which is dissapointing – but beggars can’t be choosers and I still massively enjoy Overwatch as it is.
But I wont stop hoping that I can see some crazy map concepts in the near future.
Let us know in the comments on whether or not you would want a map editor on Overwatch or not, and what kind of map concepts you would try to employ.
