Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood Expansion

The newest expansion for Final Fantasy’s MMORPG will be bringing in not only a new continent but also two new character classes. The Stormblood expansion will introduce two tough looking characters: The Red mage, and The Samurai.

The Red Mages abilities, which were already announced and known to players, rely on melee attacks with a Rapier, and ranged attacks with magic. The character class starts at level 50, and uses Red Magic as the center of all the characters abilities. This type of magic is a combination of Black and White magic, and allows players to deal huge amounts of damage while ensuring that they are not weak in the melee department.

Whereas the Samurai will be a completely frontal fighting force, using gear that strongly favors STR. This class, like the Red Mages, does not have a base class and will start at level 50. In the trailer above you can see the new player hub of Kugane, wherein which exists a new residential area by the name of Shriogane. As a cool side note: if you stare at the Samurai for more than a second in the trailer, you can tell that his class looks an awful lot like Auron from Final Fantasy X.

As if to truly cement that the newest character is a call back to the dynasty of Final Fantasy X, a game that is close to the hearts of many is reportedly being worked on for FFXIV: a form of Blitzball.

This will likely send many players into a tither of excitement, as Blitzball was one of the best mini games ever encountered in the Final Fantasy universe. For myself personally, I know I took the Blitzball far to serious during my childhood and would often turn off my PlayStation if I lost a match – not wanting it on my record.

The Stormblood expansion will be hitting our systems, the PS4 and PC, this summer on June 30th. The two new characters will likely be extremely popular, if only from there trailers, and I can’t wait to see what they are capable of in game.

Let us know what you think of the upcoming characters in the comments section, and whether or not you’ll be picking up the expansion.
