Blizzard Tells Overwatch Players Not To Use Mouse and Keyboard Setups For Consoles

The console war’s have gone on for as long as games have been released on to multiple platforms, and while we all have a specific console we endorse there is no denying certain pro’s and con’s to each system. In the case of the PC a pro will always be the fact that their reaction times are not only quicker, but also preciser in terms of gameplay due to their mouse and keyboard. That is to say, in a one on one fight, console players will usually get cut down if the PC player is skilled at the game their playing. This is a topic that Jeff Kaplan, director and vice president at Blizzard, had to discuss recently in regards to the companies hit game Overwatch.

Kaplan had an easy message to understand for players that employed a mouse and keyboard on a console, instead of using a controller like the rest of us, that messaging being: Stop it. In a post on the Battle.net forum, he clearly stated that the Overwatch team objects to such devices being used.

For those of you not wanting to follow the link, Kaplan stated that:

“The Overwatch team objects to the use of mouse and keyboard on console. We have contacted both first-party console manufacturers and expressed our concern about the use of mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices. We have lobbied and will continue to lobby for first-party console manufacturers to either:

Disallow mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices
OR
Openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for ALL playerslucio-screenshot-001

As any player knows, neither the PS4 nor Xbox One are meant to support mouse and keyboard usage. That means that for people to use these devices, a bit of finesing is in order. Through the usage of convertors, and a little know how, it becomes possible. However, many players don’t use such methods, meaning that these players who employ both their mouse and keyboard on the console have an inherit advantage. The Blizzard team wants either everyone to have access to these devices, meaning that keyboard and mouses can be used on consoles right out of the box, or have no one use them.

An all for one mentality is rather encouragble.

After all, for players on a console, using a controller is much slower and clunkier than the speed granted to PC players – thus why the two worlds often never cross. That said, if players wish to use a mouse and keyboard – stay on the PC where the gaming will be fair.
