Video Game Releases in January
There are more than a few games coming out this January that will cause gamers to waste away in front of their respective gaming screens. The only real question at this point is what will your poison be?
We’ve gathered a list of the upcoming games so you can make an informed decision on how you wish to whittle away your hours.
Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star
PlayStation 4/PlayStation Vita
This game is set after the events of the 2010 PSP dungeon crawler, and thrusts you back into the popular world of Fate/Night. The main player takes on the job as a “master”, wherein you gain access to your own “servant” – a heroic spirit from across the ages who will engage in battle with other foes. The variety of servants are divided between eight different classes, all of which match a different type of fighting style – ranging from melee to magical abilities.
Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King
This is a 3DS port of a PlayStation 2 classic, which includes updates to not only the story, but also the voice acting, new side quests, two additional playable characters, and an alternate ending. The game also features a new fast-forward feature and a quick save option, this will cut down on time in random battles and the capability of stepping away from the game at a whim.
Gravity Rush 2
Gravity Rush, a game that caught smashing success, now has a sequel in the form of Gravity Rush 2. Most fans will be happy, as the game remains true to its roots – the biggest difference this time around lies in the introduction of new gravity modes. This changes how players must use Kat, the main character, in terms of combat. You can check out the demo in the PlayStation store which includes 15 minutes of gameplay, or even the 17 minute animation which fills in the story between the two games.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
This is yet another installment in the Kingdom Hearts universe, featuring a collection of three different stories that contribute to the overall storyline. First of which is Dream Drop Distance, which was originally released on the Nintendo 3DS; this story comes right before Kingdom Hearts 3. Following that is Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover, which is a series of cut scenes pulled from the mobile game, set before the start of Kingdom Hearts. Finally, we have the newest game in the Kingdom Hearts universe – 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage, which also takes place before Kingdom Hearts 3, and only features the previous games protagonist Aqua.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is the newest addition in the Capcom series, and while it is a departure from the latest style of play shown in recent Resident Evil games- it does promise to be a thriller. Double Dragon 4
PlayStation 4 and Windows PC
With us celebrating the 30th anniversary of the classic Double Dragon arcade game, the developers have decided to release the first numbered sequel of the game in 27 years.
Digimon World: Next Order
This title is a console port of a game previously only available in Japan on the PlayStation Vita. It begins when players are sucked into the Digital World and discover that it is being attacked by Digimon called Machinedramon.
